One of the questions I’m asked most often is  along the lines of “I have an old xyz – would you be able to repair or replace…”  or “I have an xyz – could you abc to it?”

If your item is made from leather, I generally think it’s worth keeping it “alive” as long as possible. Leather is a robust material, but if not taken care of (just like your skin) it can crack, dry or otherwise deteriorate over time.

Sometimes a good clean and oil can help give an old item a new lease of life. For maintenance tips, and a free leather care infographic, see my blog, here!

Sometimes, unfortunately, especially in the case of old belts or handbags the leather strap has deteriorated or stretched too far.  In this case, it’s likely that the worn piece(s) can be replaced.

In short, it’s always worth contacting us to ask!

Leather belts and fake (sometimes part-real!) leather handbag straps are the items I get asked about most often, so I offer a standard repair service for these items.  Scroll on for more information or click on the buttons for more!

Ravn to the rescue!

Leather Belt Repair Service

It’s served you faithfully, it has fond memories because you bought it in Morrocco, it was your granddad’s belt , you just really like the buckle because it doesn’t dig you in the gut when you bend over… I get it.  And I’ve heard all these stories from satisfied customers.

The most memorable was the belt  mentioned above: it was part of a customer’s Grandad’s uniform in World War 1.  It survived the trenches.  It was damaged when the customer was a child and used it on a home made zip line.  It was a real pleasure (and felt a little like “Repair Shop”) to work on that one!  The leather that was still servicable was repurposed as a wrist cuff.   Eco Ravn – nothing wasted!

The belts pictured here are before and after from a more recent repair.  The original was well worn but had some lovely brass fittings. and buckle.  I matched the colour as closely as possible, and the length (adding a smaller hole at the customer’s request) and re-used the belt’s original hardware.  We were both really pleased with the result.

If you have a belt you are fond of and need a replacement strap – contact us for a quote or click the button below for the standard belt strap replacement.

Leather Bag Repairs

I’ve come across some very nice, expensive handbags that have been so well loved that the handles (not  always real leather, or cheap patent leather at best) have worn and become tatty.  Above are some of the handbag straps I’ve replaced.

See below of some of the steps involved in replacing the old, tatty handles. (Make a change from reading long paragraphs of text!)
