At Eco Ravn we have big respect for animals . That may sound strange for a leather worker to say, but it’s true! Our ethics guide everything we do and recycling otherwise waste leather products is part of that. We have a small number of “ready to go” unique recycled leather products available in our webshop. Having lived on a working farm in South East Cornwall for over 30 years, we love the animals that live around me… whilst understanding that they’re being raised for food. And yes I’m a carnivore! As a kid, looking after the lambs in Spring turned me veggie for a month or two. It was lamb and bacon that turned me back! But since they’re being used for food, it makes sense to waste as little of the animal as possible.

Recycled Leather
I never say no to 2nd hand leather – there are so many ways it can be repurposed. The possibilities are endless! As a result, Eco Ravn was born. Our first product was the foraging pouch, here, which has even gone down well with some vegan friends. Yes, some vegans use leather products. See here for more! The one shown in our webshop was recycled from a leather sofa that my dad made about 40 years ago! (Part of it is also a very nice chair in their house!)

Eco Ravn keeps the ethics in animal products by upcycling and recycling preloved leather items. Respect the animal for longer – wear Eco Ravn with pride!
Leather Repair
If looked after, any well made leather item will last the test of time. But eventually, as with any natural material, it will deteriorate and disintigrate.
Repairing old leather goods would always be my first option. We’re often asked if we can replace belt straps or handbag handles. We like to reuse the rest of the item if possible, keeping as close as we can to the original.
This is one of a few handbags we’ve repaired. We’ve restitched bible covers that my dad made =40 years previous, and replaced belt straps on treasured buckles. For more information on Ravn Repairs, please see our dedicated Ravn Repairs page.
Repurposed Leather
We have a small number of wrist bands and cuffs made from old and damaged stock. Many of these look exactly the same as our standard cuffs, but you can be confident in wearing these items that you are recucing waste of animal products, and reducing carbon emissions because I didn’t need to order extra deliveries!
Working with damaged stock is more time consuming, as you’re working with more constraints. But it means that each recycled leather item is unique. Even more so than our usual products! So if you haven’t found that item you’ve been looking for, check our web shop regularly. Each item will be uploaded separately.
Reducing Waste
We are pleased to be working (at our own pace… drekly) with High View Farm to produce products that will do their organic goats proud.
They also believe in respecting the animal by using as much of it as possible. Very little goes to waste! They rear their own goats, organically, practically in their garden! Their goats aren’t just livestock, they’re family! And they sell their own meat. (Yep a real life farm that cold send you a photo of the face you’re eating!)
Their hides are all veg tanned here in the UK.

We blogged through July about how leather and cow products aren’t the evil they’re portrayed as in the media. In short, there are a lot of products you use every day that contain cow products. From the tarmac you walk on, through every day items such as cosmetics and crayons.They’re all by products. Co products if you are pedantic. (Although I can’t see the distinction, personally!)
