Dying leather is a tricky part of the art! You need to case it first, and use different tricks depending on what you’re dying to get an even coverage. But before that, even undyed veg tan leather tans with age and wear and develops it’s own character! Leather is unique!
With Christmas coming up and everything getting more costly, everyone is saving the pennies! Leather is a luxury. But why is leather so costly? This is Ravn Leather’s process: from idea, to leather hide, to finished product.
When I see something discounted or “budget value” my response is suspicion! If it’s leather we wanna know: Is it real? Why is it cheap? How will it wear?

Whilst it will soak up the oils from your dogs skin, this helps to nourish it, andas long as you give it a clean with a damp cloth every now and then it won’t collect the dirt. The weave of a nylon collar is the perfect place fore dirt and grime to collect. It’s the bacteria that thrives there that stinks!
The idea of genuine leather being suitable for vegans may seem contradictory. But vegans avoid animal products for a variety of reasons, including ethical, environmental, and health. Leather, being made from animal hides, is generally a no-no.
However, here are some reasons why leather is a better bet than any kind of fossil-fuel based fake stuff:
unlike the fake stuff, with time, genuine leather will stretch around your body and mold to fit you perfectly without cracking and peeling! With the weight, you know you’re wearing a leather hat, and it fits perfectly the shape of your head. A pair of leather gloves bend and stretch with your fingers and fit… well – like a glove!
Just like human skin varies in tone and toughness… so does a cow. It’s belly will have stretch marks and folds while it’s shoulders are fairly thick. A hide also tells the tale of the cow’s life. Each comes with it’s own unique grain pattern and set of scars: signs of it’s use in life.
