OK no one is saying a brand new pair of shoes is comfy, but unlike the fake stuff, with time, genuine leather will stretch around your body and mold to fit you perfectly without cracking and peeling! With the weight, you know you’re wearing a leather hat, and it fits perfectly the shape of your head. A pair of leather gloves bend and stretch with your fingers and fit… well – like a glove!
You see, because leather is essentially tanned skin, it works the same way your skin does, bending and stretching. As with your own skin if you keep it moisturised it won’t crack as it bends. My Beastie has been wearing her collar almost as long as I’ve had her (so around 2 years) and it is the softest, most supple piece of leather I’ve ever come across. When you wet leather, you can mold it into any shape, so see below for how to break in your boots quick!

Tip: if a new pair of boots is tight when you bend your toes, wet them and stretch them out with a beer bottle overnight! (I’ve done this with more than a few pairs of DMs over the years and it cuts out months of breaking in!)
Not just that – leather is heavy: you know you’re wearing it – my jackets have always acted a bit like a comfort blanket (ok I didn’t know it at the time and would have told you in no uncertain terms to ummm, go away! But…) – why else would I have worn my jacket and boots on the beach in over 20 degree heat? And I could wear my leather bike jeans all day (haha see https://youtu.be/q_ieUayeJzU https://youtu.be/q_ieUayeJzU )
There is also nothing more reassuring than buckling up a leather belt, knowing that it’s gonna keep your builder’s crack safely tucked away and feeling the weight of it around your middle all day! It looks darn good, too, so comfort and class all at the same time!

My most comfy leathers, and Beastie’s collar. A chunky leather wristband is somehow comforting, too!
